The Election

Having made it through the recent Federal election we now have to consider who we want to represent us on the new Cairns Regional Council.

Following a decision by the Queensland State Government, Councils throughout the state have been amalgamated. The amalgamation has created a number of changes to previous Council areas and Douglas Shire is now being included in the Cairns region.

The number of councillors will also be reduced from 18 for the Cairns/Port Douglas area to 10.

The new Division 9 includes Lake Placid, Caravonica, Smithfield, the James Cook University area, the area west of the highway from just south of Paradise Palms Drive through Panguna Street, Trinity Park, Trinity Beach and Kewarra Beach.

With the inevitable changes the amalgamation and larger divisions will bring, including the substantial increase in workload, I believe we need representatives who are experienced, have a proven track record and are dedicated to looking after their communities.

I have delivered in all of those areas and that work and dedication has been acknowledged by continued strong support from voters. After consideration and discussion with many in the community I am offering myself as your representative for the newly created Division 9 area which I know very well.

I respectfully ask you to give me your number 1 vote as your Cairns Regional Council representative.

The four yearly Council elections will be held on Saturday March 15th and I hope you find the included information helpful.
